I began the Observations Series in 2005, and it became a long-term exploration of form, color, and emotional depth. Working mainly with acrylic and oil on canvas or wood, I’ve been drawn to large formats that allow me to engage fully with the tactile nature of paint. The marks I use are varied and direct, placed close to the picture plane to draw the viewer into the painting. The shapes, sometimes ambiguous or off-kilter, suggest transformation and impermanence. Elements within the work seem to breathe and shift, creating a space of suspended change. Central to the series is the tension between structure and looseness—sharp, deliberate forms collide with fluid, chaotic gestures. This contrast reflects the balance between forces that hold things together and those that threaten to break them apart. This series has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and is held in permanent collections worldwide.
