grey gardens
read artist statement
Years ago, while my late husband was in the hospital, I had a dream about flowers growing through cement, their roots breaking the surface. This powerful dream became the catalyst for several past series and has resurfaced, inspiring Grey Gardens in 2024. These new works explore the possibility of beauty emerging even in the most unlikely, sterile environments. Like flowers pushing through concrete—buds, blooms, and poppies breaking free—they symbolize resilience and the vitality of life in the face of adversity. Each piece captures the energy of that moment, a living seed. The works are created with acrylic paint, ink, and occasionally spray paint on canvas, mounted on wood panels.
